Tanora Weyr (pronounced: *Tan*-er-A) is a tropical Weyr located at the mouth of the Rubicon River on the Southern Continent. The large crater, which is 3/4 of a circle, was discovered when firelizard egg hunters were exploring the shores of the large river. Knowing that their current Weyr was slowly becoming overpopulated and with a new clutch of eggs on the sands, the hunters took special note about the crater. It would make a perfect Weyr, seeing how it had a lovely view out where the circle seemed to have a missing piece of the Rubicon River, and was near a small hold of beastherders named Tanora hold. Later, they told the Weyrleader and Woman about the spot.

Dragonriders set out soon to explore the area and bring back maps. Not long after, the spot was approved to be made into a Weyr. The dragons seemed to like it since there were large rocks on which they could sun bathe on. The scenery was beautiful and the vegetation was lush, providing food for herdbeasts and such. Though the climate was usually a bit humid, it seemed like a wonderful spot. Plans were made to begin to build and crafts, along with Holds, people were sent over to start.

A few Turns before the Weyr was to be made, a clutch of eggs on the Sands had hatched and Ariona, who was 14 at the time, Impressed gold Faeith. Ariona was 15 when the start of building was made. By the time it would be done and ready for humans and dragons, Ariona's Faeith would be rising regularly Before the move was to be made, Ariona was asked to become the new Weyrwoman, despite her youth. She accepted gladly and was moved to the Weyr along with other dragonriders. The Weyrleader had been chosen in the gold's first mating flight which took place before Tanora Weyr was ready, but tragedy struck. R'lon, rider of bronze Tinoth stepped on a poisonous thorn that went undetected for sometime. The poison spread throughout his and caused him to spread ill. A cure was not available since the cause was unknown, and so R'lon died. Tinoth was lost as well, when the bronze went between. Gold Faeith would be clutching though and not much could be done about the of the would-be Weyrleader. A decision was made that the new Weyrleader would be decided by the gold's next flight.

Tanora was named for the hold it was built near.  After several years of sucessful leadership (and after a string of painful dragon deaths), Ariona stepped down without a word to anybody, her decision to give away a position of power went unexplained.  Her current weyrleader, L'kryn, was left to run the weyr until the next gold could rise.  When this occurred, it was Emali's golden Arwyth, who flew her first flight and turned weyr leadership over to her seventeen year old rider.

Ten years L'kryn's junior and unused to any sort of power, Emali was set to rebuild what was lost when Ariona stepped down.
